These cars date back to the early days of N scale (late 60s / early 70s). Bachmann also sold them under their "Parkway Industries" label (same model, same clamshell box, different brand name). They are currently part of Bachmann's "Silver Series" line.
I'm not sure what specific prototype this model might be based on (if any), but it looks a bit like the 50' box cars built by Pullman-Standard and ACF from the mid-1950s through the 1960s.
