Atlas 50' Offset Double Door Box Car

These models were originally tooled and manufactured in Italy by Rivarossi (see below), however this was right around the time that Atlas was severing their ties with Rivarossi (1977) and production was soon relocated to the Atlas facilities in New Jersey (starting around 1978). Some of the early Atlas production was available in kit form. Production was eventually relocated to China and these cars are now sold under the Atlas "Trainman" line. Earlier versions came with Rapido-style couplers. Eastern Seaboard Models sold various custom painted versions of these cars starting in 1987. These were equipped with black friction bearing trucks with Rapido couplers and made in the US.

I'm told that these cars are based on the PRR X41 50' box car (first built in the late 1940s).
